Chapter 11

"Wow!" I gaped at the rows of books that spanned more than five stories tall from floor to ceiling. Every last corner of the library was lined with books, even the column at the center of the giant spiral staircase was made up of shelves of books.

There was a large double door at the other side of the room that probably went out to the hallway. There was no use trying to escape though. Giselle and I had already walked past the guards posted on the other side of the door.

Instead, I might as well make the best of my situation. This place was straight out of my dreams. A chill ran down my spine. Library did not do this room justice. It was a sacred cathedral dedicated to worship of the written word. My bookworm heart pounded in anticipation of getting to read everything. I bent over and examined the ancient leather spines of the thick tomes. The books were worn and the painted lettering flaked off in spots. It would take decades to make my way through every book in here.

"Little girls who stick their bottoms in the air like that get smacked." I jolted upright at Alex's voice and spun around. My hands flew automatically to cover my bottom from the mentioned spanking.

I was so enchanted by the library that I had missed Alex and Grant sitting in the corner of the room. They had been there the whole time and I didn't even sense them. Vampires could be as still as corpses if they wanted. I cursed myself inwardly. Had I been around vampires for so long that they no longer gave me the creeps? How was I ever going to escape if I couldn't sense them?

"Come here, pet." Alex reached out and beckoned me over.

I reached him in a few steps and didn't resist when he pulled me onto his lap. Closing my eyes, I let my mind drift as I listened to Alex and Grant go over their strategy for dealing with the Aurelians.

"They're obviously preparing to make a move. Cederic has been going around courting favor with the clans."

"We have to find out what their next move is going to be." I could feel Alex's chest rumble against my face. "We're going to be on their target list after I refused their offer."

I sat up as I remembered something I heard from the meeting between the two clans. "They might be in Greece."

Grant shot me a curious look. "Why do you think so?"

Alex stroked my hand and gave me an encouraging nod. I straightened my spine as I spoke, "I got lost on the night of your little party with the Aurelians. That's when I overheard some of the vamps talking about Cederic sending them to Greece."

We both knew I didn't really get lost that night, but Alex didn't give any hint that he noticed my little lie.

Alex sighed. "Those fuckers are actually crazy enough to end the world on one of Cederic's whims.
